Leading the Conversation on Mental Health
Clear, trustworthy mental health information has never been more important.
My mission is to make evidence-based mental health information accessible, practical, and grounded in science.
As a practicing psychiatrist and Chief Medical Officer of the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI), I care for patients while helping shape conversations about mental health on a national level through education, advocacy, research, and media. I believe that better understanding leads to better care, stronger communities, and greater hope.

Helping Families Navigate Children's Mental Health
Parents often tell me they wish they had a trusted, evidence-based resource to help them better understand their child's mental health. I wrote You Are Not Alone: The NAMI Guide to Navigating Your Child's Mental Health to provide practical guidance, compassionate support, and hope for families navigating these challenges.
Drawing on my experience as a psychiatrist, educator, and national mental health leader, the book offers clear, accessible information to help parents better understand common mental health conditions, navigate treatment options, advocate for their children, and feel less alone along the way.
All author proceeds from the book are donated to the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) to support its mission of improving the lives of individuals and families affected by mental illness.
